| Description |
Denver and Rio Grande Western RR dome buffet / lounge / observation car #1145 Silver Sky, built in 1949 by the Budd Company of Red Lion, PA for use as rear end car on California Zephyr. Car had three double bedrooms and one drawing room with shower, each for two people. Also provided buffet / drinks / lounge service under dome and in rear of car. Car had 24 seats in dome for Pullman passengers. Leased and operated by Pullman Company; one car per train set. Later this car was used on Rio Grande Zephyr (also in rear of train). Car remodeled to full lounge dome observation by the Rio Grande at Burnham Shops in Denver. This eliminated Pullman rooms. Photograph location: Grand Junction, Colorado. Photographer / Donor: Mike B.
