Description The spillway tunnel at Flaming Gorge is bored through solid rock. The view is looking into the tunnel from the downstream portal of the dam. The jumbo drill rig is at the head of the tunnel and is preparing to drill another round. The tunnel is bored to a 21-foot diameter at downstream and 3--foot diameter at upstream. It has been excavated 200 feet with 500 feet to go. When complete it will be lined with concrete.
