Buildings--Religious Structures--Uintah Stake Center |
Description |
A group of 891 adults gathered to celebrate the construction and dedication of the newly constructed Uintah Stake Center in July of 1949. At this time three buildings were dedicated by David O McKay. The Vernal Third Ward/Uintah Stake Center was erected under the leadership of Bishop E. C. Jones. The other chapels dedicated were the Glines and Napels Chapels. One of the biggest celebrations in Vernal's history was held in connection with the dedication of these chapels. The cost of the three chapels were approximately $555,000.00. Former residents of the valley were invited to the celebration and over 5000 people attended. Activities included family reunions, ward reunions, dances, and one of Vernal's largest parades was held; it being over a mile long. There was also children's festivals, patriotic programs and a special old folks lunch for those over 70 years old. |
