Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-

The Utah Manufacturing Association, incorporated in March, 1905, is an association of Utah manufacturing concerns. It represents approximately 550 manufacturers (or 90% of the industry in Utah).

The association officially represents not only its members, but all Utah industry, in the state and national legislatures. Its stated objectives are:

"(a) To promote Utah's industrial development. (b) To properly publicize the quality and diversity of Utah goods and services. (c) To present prompt and accurate information to enable state legislators and members of the national Congress to make fair decisions on matters affecting industrial operations in the state. (d) To establish in the public mind an increasingly favorable attitude toward business and industry through intelligent public relations."

The association is still active in promoting a favorable climate for manufacturers in Utah.

The records of the collection are described below. All records were retained with the exception of nineteen cash books and financial ledgers which have been returned to the association. The information contained in these ledgers is summarized in the published minutes of the association.
