Title |
Correspondence relating to a speech by Marriner S. Eccles to National Industrial Conference Board, New York City, November 16, 1944 |
Description |
Scan of letters to and from Federal Reserve Chairman Marriner S. Eccles in connection with his speech at the meeting of National Industrial Conference Board held in New York City on November 16, 1944. These letters range from requests for copies of the speech and thanks for receiving copies, to detailed comment on the content of the speech. The latter often led to responses by Eccles or his staff further addressing the comments or concerns raised. Among the correspondents were Garet Garrett of the Conference Board and Francis Townsend, founder of the "Townsend Plan." Includes copies of news clippings sent to Eccles; a clipping of a column in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from the Feb. 11, 1945 issue that copied the speech verbatim; and a copy of a pamphlet, "A program for America: address by Dorothy Thompson, President of Freedom House, at Carnegie Hall, April 30, 1944." |
