Stewart and Ralph Ashton, sons of Rae and Eva Stewart, served during World War II. Stewart enlisted in the Air Corps and ended up with six Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross after 52 bombing missions against the Japanese in the South Pacific. Ralph was lieutenant in a mule pack outfit then became platoon commander of a machine gun and mortar company in the Philippine Islands. |
