Description Butterfly dancers-the Butterfly is a pleasure dance with an undercurrent of supplication for the welfare of the Hopi people. Dancing in couples, as many as a hundred men and women may participate. Music is furnished by a chorus of men. Each male dancer is required to provide his partner's headboard. Competition is brisk and the resulting multiplicity of colors and designs contributes a kaleidoscopic beauty to the dance. In the illustration the dancers are posed to show details of the regalias. 4 dancers: 2 girls with head pieces, black dresses with red and green details and white lace on the hem, many turquoise necklaces and silver bracelets. They are holding pine bows. they are wearing yellow stockings wutg ornate leg warmers. An older man is standing between the girls. He is wearing a red headband, a turquoise necklace and colorful ribbons on his dark regalia. There is a younger boy standing at the front of the group. He is also wearing a dark shirt with colorful ribbons, white pants and brown boots. He is holding a stick with a circular object on the end of it
