Description Color exterior photograph of a large group of Navajo men. The Women's Dance is a three-day ceremony, in fact, the Navajo War Dance. Its purpose is to destroy the ghost of an enemy which, by its presence, has brought mental or physical illness to a Navajo man or woman. Music for the night dancing is provided by a chorus of from a dozen to as many as sixty male voices, as pictured in this photograph. A large group of men standing together at the Squaw Dance.
