Shops at 4771 S. State through 4775 S. State Street built starting circa 1911

The land at 4775 So. State Street (shop at far right) was built on land originally owned by Henry William Brown and his wife. The Browns sold the property to Consolidated Wagon Company in 1906. Between 1911 and 1915, two commercial blocks were built at the north end of the property. 4771 S. State housed an automobile repair shop and 4773 S. State housed the Edward Horr Bicycle Shop (1867 - 1945). In 1914, Consolidated Wagon sold the property just south of 4773 S. State to brothers Archibald & David Frame. They were most likely responsible for the construction of the building at 4775 S. State St. in 1916 and its lease as a post office which it was from 1917 to 1926. In 1933, the building was sold to Guy Laney and his wife. Guy went into business with his brother Mark and they started the Poultrymen's Hatchery in the building at 4775 S. State (store at far right. They were in business there until 1960.
