Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-The Melville Irrigation Company of Millard County, Utah was established on 24 Mar 1906 and incorporated on August 13th of that year. The purpose of the company was to purchase part of the Sevier Bridge Dam and Reservoir which was begun by the Deseret Irrigation Company in 1902. The Melville portion would be used to irrigate land between Oasis and Leamington. The company's office was in Melville, which later became Delta, Utah. Along with the cooperation of three other companies, the Sevier Bridge Dam, commonly known as Yuba Dam, was completed in 1909 and expanded in 1916. The Melville Irrigation Company controlled some forty miles of canals which irrigated ten thousand acres of land. In addition, the company maintained the culverts in Delta from 1918 to 1932 when the village assumed that task, and helped build a major bridge in Delta in 1936. Content Description +/-The Melville Irrigation Company Collection consists of the business papers, minutes of the stockholders' meetings and minutes of the meetings of the board of directors. The records run from 1906 to 1958. The collection also includes legal papers and a compilation of facts pertaining to the early history of the company from 1908 to 1913.
