Additional Information The only people to really be successful at hauling freight and passengers on the Colorado were the Baldwin brothers, owners of the Moab Garage Company, who built and used a number of powered barges and scows in the 1920s. In 1925 the company contracted with local oil companies to transport machinery and equipment from Moab to the wells. For this purpose a 75-foot long scow was built powered by a 40-horsepower automobile engine and an eight-foot paddlewheel. The boat was 14-15 feet wide, three feet deep and drew four inches when empty. Between March of 1925 ad June of 1929, the scow made about 240 trips between Moab and the wells, located within a distance of 38 miles below Moab
