Description This is a hand painted portrait of Peter Dillman. Peter Dillman came to Vernal in 1877. He started an early sawmill and with the logs helped build the first school in which he was a teacher. He was once a forest ranger for Ashley National Forest and was the first goverment Indian farm supervisor at Whiterocks. He was instrumental in building the road from Fort Duchesne to Vernal. He ran an early funeral parlor and also the earliest drug store on Vernal Avenue. At the age of 79 he had his left leg amputated at the knee. He was born July 1, 1854 and died August 1, 1939.
