Description |
Isabrand Sander was manager of the Golden Rule Store in Vernal. In 1917 he was drafted into the Army to serve in World War I. It was in September of 1917 that he and Mary Merkley married in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a newly finished home on Academy Avenue in Vernal. He left in October to complete his assignment in the Army. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre at Chateau Thiery. This honor was given by the French government for the valiant and heroic services. He came home from France in June of 1919 just in time to give a talk in the 4th of July Celebration. He then took charge as manager of the Ashley Co-op. He was active in the Witbeck Americal Legion Post and served as post commander. In 1920, he ran on the Republican Ticket for the Representative to the State Legislature, he won that seat. He was appointed to the Board of Education in 1929 representing the Lapoint area.They had moved to Heber City by 1943 and then into Salt Lake City by 1959. He died August 4, 1962. |
