Collection Inventory +/-Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-Robert Rollin Huddleston came to Westminster College (Salt Lake City, Utah) as the new Vice President for Development and Public Relations in the Fall of 1967. His first task was to direct the college's development campaign with immediate emphasis on expansion of the alumni program. He had previously held a similar position of vice-president for development and public relations at Berea College in Kentucky. Huddleston was born July 17, 1927 in Miami Station, Missouri to William Rollin and Ruth (Winfrey) Huddleston. He received a B.A. from Baker University in Kansas, a Master's degree from Garrett Institute in Illinois, and a Doctor of theology degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver. He also had studied at Drew University and the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin. He was a pastor at Methodist churches in Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, and a teacher and chaplain at Ohio Northern University. Returning to Kansas City, Huddleston married Helen Elsie (Green) Scott on May 21, 1956 and adopted her three children. In 1967 when the Huddlestons relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah, Robert Huddleston and his wife had two sons attending Ohio universities, and a daughter attending Highland High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Huddlestons retired while living in Aurora, Colorado. Robert Huddleston died June 1, 2000 in Denver, Colorado. Helen Green Huddleston died six years later in 2006. Sources:
The Corinne Methodist Church, also referred to as the Corinne Methodist Episcopal Church, is believed to be the first non-Mormon church and oldest Protestant church building in Utah, having been built in 1870. According to the National Register of Historical Places, the church is located at the corner of Colorado Street and 4000 West in Corinne, Box Elder County, Utah. It is approximately 7 miles west of Brigham City, and 67 miles north of Salt Lake City. Sources:
Content Description +/-This collection consists of materials dating from 1968-1969 relating to a proposal to move the historic Corinne Methodist Church from Corinne, Utah to the Westminster College campus in Salt Lake City, Utah. The documents, which include brochures, church histories, correspondence, lists, minutes, newspapers, proposals and reports, were collected by Robert R. Huddleston, Vice-President for Development and Public Relations at the college during that period. Collection Use +/-Restrictions on Access: Open to public research.
