Description Dr. Steve Downes (b. 1960) grew up in the Liverpool area and started climbing at a young age with friends. In 1985, Steve moved to Boulder, CO, for a PhD program, but then left to finish the PhD at Virginia Tech. Steve recounts climbing in Britain, Boulder, and the New River Gorge while attending school. In 1992, Steve moved to Salt Lake City to be a philosophy professor at the University of Utah. Steve recounts bouldering and climbing in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Joe's Valley, and America Fork Canyon. Steve was a founding member of the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance.
