Description |
"An illustrative series of French words and phrases that have no English equivalents. Because images are a universal language that require no learned literacy (albeit to an extent - you can always get better at "reading" a work, and cultural context will always play a role in how you do so, but certain visuals, symbols, and colors are shared and recognizable cross-culturally), it made sense to me to endeavor to convey feelings and concepts that are hard to translate verbally as more immediate and accessible images. The final character-based images will ultimately be displayed as an illustrated dictionary, with the visual translations and their definitions, pronunciation guides, and common usages. " From the artist. This work was displayed as part of the 2024 Illustration Capstone exhibition. |
