Letter dated 8 October 1881 from William Esplin at Philadelphia to his uncle, John Esplin in Utah

Brown Manufacturer and Dealer in Boots and Shoes No 1034 Mark Street (under Bingham House) Philadelphia 8th Oct 1881 Dear Sir As yet I have had no reply to the letter I sent you from Baltimore. Since writing I have been at Richmond and Washington but in both places failed to get a situation. I came here ten days ago and am promised a situation on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in the course of a month. Until that time the above gentleman has kindly taken me in to do odd jobs required at his house for which I receive my bed and board, but he and a few other Scotchmen are doing what they can to get me a situation. I have not yet heard from home. I am afraid my letter has gone with the unfortunate "Anchoria." As I had to leave all my baggage but what I stand in at Baltimore for my board, would you kindly so as to enable me to redeem it and be in a position to start work, send me at least $25. I asked you for 50 but now that I am sort of fixed 25 will do. Do please send it on receipt. You are the only relative I have in this country and owing to the loss of that steamer it is hard to say when I will hear from home. I wont be long in repaying it. Address letter, care of Mr. Brown.
