Scrapbook compiled by Alan K. Engen containing materials illustrative of the history of skiing (mainly in Utah) during the years 1940 through 1946. Includes photographs, documents, newspaper and magazine articles about ski jumping, tournaments, and ski resorts in Utah, Idaho, and elsewhere, especially Alta, Ecker Hill, Sun Valley, and Jackson, and tracks the career of Alf Engen as both skier, ski area developer for the U.S. Forest Service, technical expert for the Utah Quartermaster Corps during World War II, and instructor of Forest Service employees. He and his brothers were also featured in early skiing movies such as "Ski Aces" and "Ski Gulls." His 1943 Ski Patrol certificate; historical articles on Alta and other resorts; information on World War II skiing such as the 10th Mountain Division; and several historical notes composed by Alan K. Engen.. |
