Additional Information |
Image was scanned from color slide. Note: The Japanese Friendship Garden is named "San-Kei-En" meaning "three scene garden" -- water, pastoral, and mountain. San-Kei-En is an expression of the ties between the people of San Diego and Yokohama and blends the two cultures to create a unique experience. The garden was named in honor of the San-Kei-En Garden in Yokohama. The Japanese Friendship Garden represents a new stage in the development of the Japanese garden outside of Japan. The design of he San-Kei-En is guided by the original principles of the Japanese garden, while incorporating the local regional landscape and climate.--Japanese Friendship Garden San Diego website. Note: Mon (紋) are Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual or family.--Wikipedia. Note: Original caption information provided for this image: "Old Main entrance to Garden with black Meiji style gate with inaccurate silver mon Japanese Garden San Diego, Ca." Note: Appears to be same gate as image with file name: japan_china_l_083 and original caption information provided as: "Old Meiji Style black gate at old entrance to the Japanese Garden, San Diego, Ca, with very inaccurate white mon." Note: Both photos taken same year, 1998. Note: Also appears to be same gate as in images with file names: japan_china_r_083 and japan_china_r_084. |
