Oral history interview with Eda Parkinson Anderson by Golden Sanderson. Topics include: Service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), including Primary, MIA, and Relief Society; Her grandparents immigrating to the United States from England after joining the LDS Church; One set of grandparents coming up the Mississippi and crossing the plains to come to Utah and settling in Kaysville; The other set of Grandparents sailing around South America to San Francisco and then traveling to Utah. Grandfather and Grandmother Nash being asked to escort the orphan children who survived of the Mountain Meadow Massacre back to St. Louis area to be with their remaining family; Adopting a girl in St. Louis and a return to Salt Lake; Both sets of Grandparents moving to Franklin. Idaho, raising their families, and remaining there the rest of their lives; Eda's parents meeting, marrying and settling near Franklin, ID and Preston, UT; Her father serving a mission for the in Great Britain; Her mother attending college and teaching school in Logan, UT; Her father starting a store in Preston that grew to four buildings; His service as a LDS Bishop for fifteen years; Building a nice large home and selling it to move to Hyrum where Eda was born and grew up; Her father's service as a LDS Stake President for nineteen years; Her parents hosting LDS General Authorities eat their large home when they came to Hyrum for Stake Conferences; Moving to Salt Lake City as a teenager and attending Irving Jr. High School, East High School, and the University of Utah, graduating in Home Economics and Drama; Participation in a Road Show and performing at Lagoon; Baking cakes to help pay for college; Being offered a job and signing a contract to teach home economics in Fairview during her last semester at the UofU; Having a friend who was offered a job to teach English in Fairview and riding with her to come home on the weekends: Finding a house to board in; Going to dances; Meeting her future husband and being invited to Sunday dinner; Marriage and spending the rest of her life in Fairview; Entertaining LDS General Authorities, in her Fairview home like her parents did in Hyrum. |
