John C. Bates

John C. Bates came to Ashley Valley in 1886. He married Jeanette Eliza Perry in 1895. He was a sheepman. He had charge of the dipping and shearing plants for the Uintah County Sheep Association. He was director for the Thorougbred Sheep Co. for many years. He was also involved in getting the Telephone Company, Uintah State Bank, and the Vernal Milling and Light Company started. He was a city and county commissioner. He was born July 8, 1865 and died February 3, 1948.
