Show Ten rows of people pose on the steps on Ferry Hall. The first row is a row of seven likely pre-teen boys, two of which are either wearing or holding plaid newsboy hats. One of the boys is blurred from movement. Behind them stands an off-center row of women; three on each side sit on a tier of the stone walls running up along side the stairs. The next two rows are intermixed gender-wise; in the later row, two girls sit on the next tier on the left side and a boy in a Westminster College sweater marked with a 'W' sits on the right. They are followed by two more intermixed rows, with three girls and a boy on the second to last left tier and a single girl sitting alone on the right. The two rows are composed of men in either sweaters or suits; a few of them are wearing newsboy caps and one wears a brimmed hat. On the final tiers above the others, two girls and a boy or a girl in a trenchcoat (blurred) stand to the left, and a man in an unmarked sweater stands to the right. Between the two |
Further Information |
Photo is in good condition. The lower left corner bears some creases and near-tears. There are white margins along the side and bottom, but not the top. Written in blue ink on the front in the bottom margin are the numbers "1919-20". There is a lot of dried glue on the back. A stamp in purplish ink at the center says "UTAH PHOTO MATERIALS CO., Commercial Photographers, 366 So. Main St.--Salt Lake Ci[..]". There is a pencil arrow drawn in the upper right corner, and in other places pencil handwriting states "Return this photo to Westminster College [?] [?]", "Job 59657 Arrow Press," "1919-20", and "133 [?]". Ferry Hall began construction on October 10, 1907 and was finished two years later due to lack of funding. The hall bore the name of Colonel William and Jeannette Ferry, Park City residents who contributed $15,000 of the $25,000 needed to erect the hall. The Ferry's were also a crucial factor in securing the land (in 1901) that Westminster College calls home today. Ferry Hall |
