Many patients experience a prodromal period of one or more days before the onset of acute malaria. During this time, they may complain of nonspecific symptoms, such as malaise, headache, myalgia, arthralgias, chest pain, abdominal pain, and fatigue. Such patients initially may be thought to have a viral illness until they develop the malarial paroxysm. |
