Wasatch County is unique because they are one of the highest growing areas in the nation. Since 2010, they have seen a 44.9% population increase. Population growth is one of the biggest things that cities and counties struggle to deal with. However, not only do they have a substantially increasing population to plan for, but they are also a huge tourist destination with many different recreational opportunities ranging from Deer Valley Ski Resort, to Jordanelle and Strawberry Reservoir among other places. In order to plan for this kind of growth and change in the area, The Wasatch County Planning Department was really interested in me updating some of their general plan chapters. The Wasatch County Planning Department is small, only comprising of four planners, and so much of the staff's effort is spent trying to keep up with day-to-day planning, leaving little efforts or time for long range planning. As a result, their general plan hadn't been updated in over 20 years and was terribly out of date. This is detrimental because if development isn't planned for, then it usually tends to happen very haphazardly and can even potentially be things that aren't what is best for the community. As part of this project, two chapters of the Wasatch County General Plan were updated, Chapter One, and Chapter Three. These chapters are included as Exhibits A and B respectively. |
