Description Cyclic adenosine 3,5-monophosphate (cyclic AMP) is a nucleotide of utmost importance in the regulation of hormonal expression and metabolic activity in at least some lower and all higher forms of animal life. All living animal tissues in higher animal species make or, contain cyclic AMP (14). The nucleotide has been found in mammals, birds, fish, insects, segmented worms, liver flukes, and bacteria (6). As yet cyclic AMP has not been found in higher plants.
