Energy Management by Larry Currey Utah's Higher Education System was underfunded by $4 million dollars in 1994 for energy costs. This funding hole keeps getting deeper. Not many have heard of the U's program - they deliberately haven't publicized it much; much has been done behind the scenes up until now. They focused on air handling run times last year and saved $840,000. The next step is to work with the people who are sitting on a lot of the costs with computers and peripherals left running unnecessarily. Average PC desktop in sleep mode consumes 50 watts/hour of electricity. With 6700 hours/year for 2000 PCs in off-mode, we'd save $40,000 year, and there are a lot more than 2000 PCs on this campus. Energy settings and their savings - these will be forwarded to IT Managers.
