Subject Eye, Growth and Development; Eye, Anatomy and Histology; Ocular Physiological Phenomena; Cortical Area V6
Description Area V6, which is located medially in the parietal cortex adjacent to area V3A, is poorly understood (see the previous section on Area V3 for discussion of controversy in naming this and related areas). Area V6 receives input from V2, has large receptive fields, and is thought to function in the mapping of relative spatial relationships. Adjacent cells within area V6 respond to stimuli that are located in a similar area of the visual field, although V6 does not have a conventional retinotopic map.
