Innovative, accessible, and up-to-date oncology education with NCPD credits offered to clinical staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute and its six affiliated rural hospitals. i. Significance: The LEAP Education program marked its eighteenth month since implementation on December 31, 2023. Since that time, 535 learners were served and 500 NCPD credits awarded. Participants included RNs, medical assistants, certified nursing assistants, social workers, advanced practice nurses and pharmacists from both the local cancer institute and rural affiliate partnerships. ii. Purpose: The purpose of the program was to create convenient and accessible educational opportunities, offer NCPD credits, and cover current oncology hot topics for local staff and underserved rural partners. Interventions: Initially, the program was created and piloted in a "Lunch and Learn" virtual platform. The evaluation revealed that staff supported attending educational offerings however, the time offered was not ideal. Late afternoon offerings or asynchronous learning was preferred to accommodate the variety of staff schedules. Accordingly, the education team pivoted to schedule offerings from 4pm-5pm, offered post recorded sessions on an internal video sharing platform and rebranded the name of the program to LEAP (learn, elevate, apply to practice). Topics included Immunotherapy, CAR-T, Monoclonal Antibodies and TKIs, Radiation therapy, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Symptom Management, and Palliative Care and one NCPD was awarded for all sessions attended or viewed or viewed on post presentation video platform. |
