Description Particulate and ozone air pollution are public health problems in many areas of the United States. Numerous studies link these pollutants with decreases in lung function, increased emergency department and hospital admissions, and increased mortality. A questionnaire was used to assess knowledge levels of a sample of primary care providers regarding the health effects of particulate and ozone pollution. Care providers identified recommendations made to patients to minimize the effects of these pollutants. Respondents scored significantly higher on particulate questions (X = 75%) than on ozone questions (X = 49%). A majority of providers addressed air pollution with their patients, with significant correlation between percentage of provider patient population with chronic respiratory disease and providers recommending activity restrictions. Providers in Weber/Davis counties were more likely to suggest air filter use during periods of elevated particulate pollution than were other providers.
