Show A parking lot in front of Hogle Hall and Walker Hall. The lot carries about ten parked vehicles. Although most of the parking lot visible is dirt paved, there is another lot that is blacktopped. Only a portion of this can be seen in the foreground and there are three cars parked there. Judging by the vehicles parked in the lot, this photograph was probably taken in the early to mid sixties. The vehicles are of various makes and types for example a Mustang can be seen parallel parked in front of the three vehicles in the foreground. Two Volkswagen Bugs, one parked in the middle of the lot and the other barely visible by the fender at the very left foreground. Both halls are in the background behind a foray of shade trees. The entrance to Walker Hall can be seen, while Hogle Hall is blocked entirely. Running along the middle of the photograph, in front of the shade trees, is a telephone or power line. A picturesque view of the eastside mountain range can be seen atop Hogle Hal |
Further Information |
This photograph is in good condition. There is a crease or divot at the top center edge and red formatting marks around the border's edge. The back has some slight discoloration and a stain from a remnant of tape. Written in red grease pencil at the very center is, "23 [circled] p.90, 6X4 ½ (bleed)." Hogle Hall was built in 1959 and named in memoriam of the James A. Hogle family for their contributions to the college over the years. It was there generous contribution that made the science building possible in 1949. Walker Hall was built in conjunction with Hogle Hall and served as the cafeteria for both Carleson and Hogle Halls before the erection of the Student Union Building (now Manford A. Shaw Student Center). It is supposedly is named after the Walker family, prominent bankers in the Salt Lake valley. This information was supplied by Stephen R. Morgan, Executive Vice President and Treasurer of Westminster College, on November 21, 2003. For more information concerning |
