Content Description +/-This collection consists of twelve monthly issues of the Utah Presbyterian Church publication, The Earnest worker, later called The Utah evangelist. The issues date from September 1883 to August 1884 and are numbered as Volume 1, Nos. 1-10 and Volume 2, nos. 1-2. The stated purpose of the publication was to serve "as a special organ of the school and church work of the Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City." The first two pages of the issues were devoted "to the interest of the school work in connection with the Collegiate Institute," while its third and fourth pages were "devoted to the Presbyterian Church work." Overall, the publication included descriptions of activities, events, and facilities of the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute, information on Presbyterian missions and missionaries in Utah, notices for the Presbyterian Church and its upcoming events, a regular temperance column, reports on events of various societies, and a variety of advertisements for local businesses. The Utah Presbytery adopted The Earnest worker as an organ of the Presbytery and changed its name to The Utah evangelist in April 1884. The publication of The Utah evangelist ended abruptly with no explanation. Its last known issue was August 1884. Collection Use +/-Restrictions on Access: Open to public research.
