Subject |
Encephalitis Lethargica; Clinical Manifestations |
Description |
Encephalitis lethargica begins with influenza-like symptoms of cough, coryza, and low-grade fever. Affected patients then develop acute or subacute clinical manifestations of one of three types: (a) somnolent-ophthalmoplegic, (b) hyperkinetic, or (c) amyostatic-akinetic (parkinsonian). After resolution of the acute syndrome, some patients with all three forms of the disease develop PEP with a variable latency of months to years. |
