Whitney Wellington placed third overall with 7.79 in the 60-meter dash preliminary round, followed by McAllister-Birkeland's lifetime best of 7.79 to earn ninth-place. The pole vault finals were competed on Friday with two Utah athletes in the top ten. Newcomer Klaudia Rokossa had a third-place finish with a vault of 12'6". Laryssa Simpson had an 11'6.18" vault for 10th-place. Chasity Toilolo and Sarah Grimm had good showings in the shot put finals on Friday night earning fourth (42'9.77") and ninth (39'6.4"), respectively. Brianna LeRoy's best events in the pentathlon were the hurdles, high jump, and long jump. She finished the hurdles in 9.07 (895 points) and had a jump of 5'4.96" (795 points) in the high jump for second-place in both events. In the long jump, LeRoy earned seventh-place with a jump of 16'10.36" (598 points). The University of Utah women's track and field team finished the last day of the Mountain State Games on Saturday night with several top-five finishes and the women's 4x400-meter relay team winning their event with a time of 3:52.87. Utah also saw champions in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run, long jump and high jump as well. In the 400-meter dash, Chelsey Kaplar ran a strong race to finish first with a time of 57.45, with teammate Lucy Yates finishing close behind for second place and a finish time of 58.39. Also finishing in the top ten of the event was Whitney Wellington with a time of 59.72 to earn sixth-place. The 800-meter run was dominated by senior Chelsea Shapard. The Ute finished in 2:11.27 ahead of Laken skidmore of Weber State (2:15.73) and Jenna Lowder of BYU (2:16.43). Shapard's time ranks second on Utah's all-time indoor performance list. Janett Ern came in fourth-place with a time of 2:17.09. The long jump was headed by Haley McAllister-Birkeland with a jump of 18'3.25" to win the event. Ashley Patterson finished third in the competition after jumping 18'1". Freshman Langley Iverson came out victorious on Saturday in the high jump after reaching the 5'6" mark. Sydney Wendt from Idaho State came in second-place with a 5'4.25" clearance. |
