Show ABSTRACT ENERGY CONSERVATION AND POLLUTION CONTROL DR. ARVIND C. THEKDI ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT THERMAL SYSTEMS TECHNICAL CENTER MIDLAND-ROSS CORPORATION TOLEDO, OHIO 43696 The paper discusses the effects of pollution control, particularly NO control, methods, on heat demands for the process. The effects of combustion modification methods, such as stoichiometric combustion, flue gas recirculation and steam or water injection are studied in a laboratory furnace and the results are analyzed to evaluate the least energy demanding method of NOx control. In addition to this, the effects of energy conservation methods, such as the reduction of excess air, use of preheated air and the oxygen enrichment of combustion air, on the N0X formation and emissions are discussed. discussions are based on past experimental results.
