Note "For more than a century, trading posts were integral to everyday life for many Native people in the Southwest. Often run by non-Natives, Native people traveled to "the post" to learn the news of the day, communicate upcoming events, and purchase manufactured items. Despite their benefits, trading posts, with their high interest rates, contributed to economic stress in many Native Communities and created an unequal power relationship between Native and non-Native people." Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. (2022). Here, Now and Always. Santa Fe, New Mexico.
