Description Eugene Devic and his student F. Gault first reported a single case of their own and reviewed 16 existing cases characterized by optic neuropathy and myelopathy . in 1894. The disease has been considered by some investigators to be a variant of multiple sclerosis MS; (clinically definite MS = CDMS), although it appears to follow a separate and distinct course. This paper will review the current clinical, pathophysiologic, and therapeutic facets of Devic's neuromyelitis optica (DNO).
