Description Previous anatomic dissections of the orbital vasculature failed to demonstrate direct anastomoses between the intraneural central retinal artery (CRA) and the short posterior ciliary arteries (SPCA). The only collateral circulation to the CRA was felt to be from the ophthalmic artery (OA), as well as between the intravaginal and intraneural portions of the CRA itself. We present four cases in which orbital color Doppler imaging (CDI) has demonstrated anastomotic connections between an SPCA and the CRA.
