The University of Utah track and field team wrapped up the Mark Faldmo Invitational on Saturday afternoon with four event champions and 15 new personal best marks. Senior Sarah Grimm had a break through Saturday in the hammer throw event. She had a mark of 202-06 (61.72m) for a new lifetime personal best to win the event - her previous PR was 199-0. Her toss ranks second all-time in Utah school history behind Vanessa Mortensen's mark of 205-0 set in 2006. True freshman Anneli Stahl also had a new personal best mark in the event with a toss of 182-01 (55.50m). Freshman Nikkie Rudder was a top-five competitor in both the shot put and discus events. In the shot put, Rudder had a toss of 45-3.50 (13.80m) for fourth place overall and in the discus she had a mark of 139-4 (42.47m) for fifth place overall. Freshman Theresa Waybright had a season-best clearance in the pole vault with a height of 12-00 (3.66m) to tie for third place with Shanie Bushman of BYU. On the track, freshman Natalie Young had a PR in the 400m dash in route to the winning the event with a time of 56.19. In the 800m run, freshman Megan Combe finished first with a time of 2:13.37 (altitude adjusted) ahead of former Utah runner Chelsea Shapard (2:14.67) and Camille Lott of Weber State (2:16.41). Senior Chelsey Kaplar won her event in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.01, missing her current personal best mark by one second. Freshman Stephanie Muelleck came in second place in the race with a personal best time of 1:04.09. In the 200m dash, freshmen Lauryn McKay and Angela Kaplar set new personal best times. McKay finished fifth overall with a time of 25.15 and Kaplar finished eighth overall with a time of 25.79. All four Ute runners in the 1500m run set new personal bests as well. Freshman Jenny McCune finished sixth (4:43.07), Hilary Troutner finished in 11th place (4:59.00), Sydney Osmun finished 12th overall (5:01.07) and Chantel Hunt finished 16th overall (5:12.73). Utah's 4x400m relay team comprised of Young, McKay, Whitney Wellington, and Kaplar finished second overall with a time of 3:49.43. Utah State's relay team won the event with a time of 3:48.66. |
