Description High altitude cerebral edema (HACE) is considered the most dangerous of hypoxia-associated conditions occurring in climbers at high altitudes. Clinical scores have been developed to quantify cerebral symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS) which may culminate in a HACE, i.e. AMS-c score. In this study we sought to determine the incidence of optic disc swelling as a possible indicator for HACE in healthy mountaineers exposed to very high altitudes.
