Rio Grande coach #1015 at the D&RGW's Burnham Shops in Denver, Colorado. This car, which was built in 1915, was termed a "heavyweight" because of its heavy steel construction. Cars like this replaced the wooden cars of an earlier era beginning in 1910. This car typified passenger car construction until the advent of "lightweight" cars in the 1930s. |
