| Abstract |
Irvine grew up in Salt Lake City. He started climbing in 1957 when he was working in Grand Teton National Park. He was a member of the Alpenbock, one of the three main climbing clubs in Utah, along with the Ute Alpine Club and the Wasatch Mountain Club. Irvine sold tickets at the Moose entrance before moving to Jenny Lake, where he worked as a ranger for thirty-three years. He believes Grand Teton is one of the most beautiful places in the world, but everywhere in the park he is reminded of rescuing someone, or picking up a body. Since moving back to Utah he's become active in the Ogden ski community and the Utah Nordic Alliance. Interview is part of the Outdoor Recreation Oral History Project. Interviewer: Matt Driscoll |
