Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-The Westminster College School of Arts and Sciences produces a newsletter each Fall and Spring semester, and a student achievement newsletter each Summer. The A&S newsletters are designed to give information on new faculty and staff, faculty program involvement, students, and events of importance to the A&S community. Content Description +/-This collection consists of issues of the Arts & Sciences newsletter and Arts & Sciences faculty achievement newsletter created by the School of Arts and Sciences, Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah. The materials date 1998-2013. The format of the newsletters is generally a brief message from the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, followed by program news (A-Z by discipline), and office staff news. The dean's message is signed by Ray Ownbey (issue 6) and Mary Jane Chase (most issues in the run); a few issues have no signed message. The collection includes both issues as printed, and loose-leaf proofs (some without newsletter titles). In some cases both formats are held for the same issue and in other cases only one or the other. Arts & Sciences newsletter (1998-2006): This periodical has a frequency of two issues each year (Spring/Fall). While issues 1-5 are lacking in the collection, if this frequency is assumed, the Arts & Sciences newsletter was first issued about Spring 1993. It continued under this title through issue no. 22 (Spring 2006), at which point the numbering was assumed by the Arts & Sciences faculty achievement newsletter. The first newsletter in the collection has a banner "Westminster College" and the title "Arts & Sciences, Spring Newsletter". It is dated February, 1998 and is "Number 6". Ray Ownbey, Dean, writes to his "Dear Colleagues" at the top of the issue. Staff news is followed by "Program news" which is listed alphabetically by department (Art, Biology, Chemistry, Communication, etc.). Staff and faculty names are in bolded typeface. Arts & Sciences faculty achievement newsletter (2006-2013): Continuing to be issued twice yearly, and with the same format, the Faculty achievement newsletter first appears in September 2006 as the Fall issue, Number 23. From 2008 and onward, besides A&S Office news at the end of each issue, updates on new Work Study students are included. New headers appear for: "Brown Bag Series" talks, "Welcome" (new staff and faculty), "Welcome Class of 2030" and "Future Westminsterites..." (birth announcements), "New beginnings" (marriage announcements), and updates on the Great Salt Lake Institute (GSLI) activities. Gaps in the collection: Arts & Sciences newsletter issues no. 1-5, 7-10, 12-14; Arts & Sciences faculty achievement newsletter issue no. 25.
