Subject Vascular Diseases; Venous Occlusive Disease; Venous Occlusions; Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Description Our understanding of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) has greatly increased in recent years due primarily to improved radiographic methods of diagnosis. Prior to the advent of modern neuroimaging, estimates of the incidence of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) relied largely on autopsy series. More recent studies that employ radiographic techniques have demonstrated a higher incidence of this disorder than previously appreciated and have led to a greater awareness of cases at the milder end of the spectrum. Despite these advances in recognition, the diagnosis of CVT remains challenging due to its wide range of clinical expression and some aspects of treatment remain controversial.
