Salt Lake City Housing affordability - Inclusionary Zoning & other tools

A shortage of affordable housing is a phenomenon felt across the nation and Utah is no exception to this rule. Homelessness continues to be an issue for many Utahns and provision of affordable housing is a crucial element when combatting homelessness and providing equal opportunity for social, economic, and personal success with all residents. According to the Salt Lake Chamber's Utah Housing Gap Coalition, the state anticipates needing 58,619 affordable housing options for people by 2020 and this state is currently short by 40,000.i This report is the result of independent study by a graduate student with the University of Utah's Master of City and Metropolitan Planning Program. This report was commissioned to explore inclusionary zoning on housing affordability in Salt Lake City, Utah. The goal of the report is to explore the utilization of this method (and others) in benchmark cities and draw conclusions on their applicability to Salt Lake City
