Oral history interview with John Neill, conducted by Becky B. Lloyd (audio and transcript)

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources' John Neill works on the bird aspect of the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem Program and also liaises with local nonprofit Linking Communities, Wetlands, and Migratory Birds, was born in Pittsburgh. His family moved to South Ogden when he was two, and he grew up in the area and recreated frequently on Great Salt Lake and at Antelope Island. He graduated from Bonneville High in Ogden, took a degree in geology and environmental studies from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, and became involved with seasonal work on the Great Salt Lake upon his return. After completing another bachelor's, this one in biology at the University of Utah, John was hired fulltime at Division of Wildlife. He talks extensively about his work on the Lake and describes threats to various bird populations, the Great Salt Lake's hemispheric significance for bird migration, and the brine shrimp industry among other things.
