Description 7398 Deuel, Osmyn-Residence. First House in Salt Lake City, built by pioneers, was erected in September 1847 by Osmyn Deuel under the direction of Brigham Young. Fashioned from logs dragged from nearby canyons, the cracks were caulked with mud. Its most famous occupant was Captain Howard Stansbury of U.S. Army, who with his men in 1849 and 1850, made a survey of Great Salt Lake. Originally located at about 2nd. West and 3rd. South Streets in SLC, it now stands in the L.D.S. Temple Grounds, under shelter for preservation. Charles R. Savage Photographer.
