Show A large photo of the Westminster College Boy's Glee Club of 1917-1918. All members are dressed in light colored pants, dark suit coats, light colored shirts and dark patterned ties. The men wear varied hairstyles from combed to the side or combed straight back. The group stands in a two row formation with nine standing in the back row and five sitting on the floor in the front row with their legs crossed. Two of the men in the front are holding a ukulele and a mandolin guitar. Something important to note is the way the men have been positioned in the back row. Each man has been arraigned to stand according to his height. The tallest man is in the center; from the center on either side the men are positioned in a descending height order. The photograph is taken in a room with a chalkboard and two doors in the background. The floor is dark and wooden planked. The wall base (where the floor and the wall meet) is wooden coved. |
Further Information |
The photograph is in good condition. Some of the edges around the actual photograph looks faded by either time or the developmental process. The edges also appear to be worn and nicked by age and handling. On the back of the photograph, written in pen is the following: "1st row left to right sitting. Marcus Whitman, Paul Gibson, Garold Moneysmith, Leslie Shrider, Mr. Zimmerman [;] Standing - Lester Gottstein, Milton Hersey, Paul Davies, Ernest Oliver, Mr. Rankin, Mills Hersey, Robert Robertson, Blaine Selleck, Clayton Kirkham about 1918." Written in pencil is, "4 ½ 133[?] Job 45791 Arrow Press [?] [?]." The photograph appears in the 1918 Etosian, page 54 (hand counted), and is identified as the, "Boy's Glee Club." The Etosian lists the name of the men, but not in correlation to the photograph. The Etosian, the Westminster College yearbook, lists the names of the men in a two column layout, and not in correlation with the photograph. |
