Description Chronic relapsing inflammatory optic neuropathy (CRION) was initially described in 2003 as a form of optic neuritis with relatively good response to steroids, and high reoccurrence rate. The diagnostic criteria of CRION requires at least one relapse, contrast enhancement of the optic nerve on MRI, objective loss of visual function, negative AQP4-IgG serologies, response to steroid treatment and steroid-dependent relapse.
