The mink in this photo is about 47 inches long. The fur industry in the Uinta Basin was concentrated in Uintah county and brought an annual income of over $20,000 through fox and mink pelts. In addition there was the selling and exhange of some breeding stock which was more profitable than the selling of pelts. In a 1938 report a listing of pioneers of the county in this industry were Joseph Hacking, John W. Pope and Phil Stringham, who introduced the silver fox. More recent animal farmers are H. Walter Wooley, J. Ferron Hacking, Bud Powell, Milas Y. Colton and Earl Schmid and Wiley Stewart from Jensen |
