Description |
Martin Luther King, Jr. is celebrated by most Americans today as a national hero, a person who gave his life leading his people to freedom. When Congress in 1983 established the third Monday of each January as a federal holiday in memory of King, he joined George Washington as the only individuals to be so honored. Since the holiday was first celebrated in 1986, tributes and festivities have annually taken place to remember his life and accomplishments. |
